Event Date:
Monday June 20th, 2011
What:
“ART ROCKS in the CITY” is a “Live” Stone Sculpture Community Art Event
A dozen local sculptors will be working over 3 months on 14 large-scale marble stone sculptures. These will be created on the plaza next to the SW corner of the Rotary Centre for the Arts. The public is invited to view the artists at work as they slowly sculpt their own artistic vision over the summer months. This gives people the chance to view how this sculpting process works and interact directly with the artists during their breaks. One of the large sculptures will feature a Community Art Project component; a contest for youth to submit their own artwork ideas to be etched onto a sculpture being worked on by all the artists. This sculpture will in turn be donated to the community at a suitable location yet to be chosen. The committee is seeking suggestions for a location that can provide secure public access for perpetuity. In addition, there will be an opportunity for the public to vote on their favorite sculpture for a “People’s Choice Award” to be announced at the conclusion of the event.
When:
The opening ceremony will be held Monday June 20, 2011 from 3:00 – 5:00pm
Artists will then be working at various times, most days throughout
the summer months beginning June 20th to mid-September, 2011.

Outside the Rotary Centre for the Arts (RCA) 421 Cawston Avenue, Kelowna, BC,
on the South-West Plaza, and Studio #112

The KSNS is a non-profit organization which supports sculptors by providing a venue where they can meet to share ideas and information. The society assists sculptors by organizing
shows in galleries and public venues. It is dedicated to promoting public awareness and the appreciation of sculpture through workshops and demonstrations. The group is always interested in new members who have an interest in learning more about the process of creating sculptures, from wood, metal, stone, paper and more. They participate in several art shows, workshops and special events promoting sculpture as a unique artistic endeavor.
To Enter:
Learn more about the public component that will be launched in late June, inviting youth
